A recent report published in the June 2017 Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research describes the case of a 40-year-old woman diagnosed with glaucoma who presented to a chiropractic office for care. Over a period of 2 months of receiving chiropractic adjustments to correct vertebral subluxations, her intraocular pressure decreased. Again, this shows you the power of the chiropractic adjustment on facilitating the body’s nervous system. No, chiropractic does not cure glaucoma. But it assists with the body’s ability to adapt and heal in so many ways!
The eye has an intimate neuroanatomical relationship with the autonomic nervous system. The optic nerve is a bundle of more than 1 million nerve fibers that connects the eye’s light-sensitive tissue, called the retina, to the brain. A healthy optic nerve is necessary for good vision. Glaucoma is a group of diseases that damage the eye’s optic nerve and can result in vision loss and blindness.
The outcome of this patient’s case is truly amazing, but not surprising. If you’ve read many of my past posts, or have had a spinal checkup before, you know that a vertebral subluxation is the result of spinal bones with improper motion or position that interferes with nerve communications between the brain and any organs of the body, including the eyes. Chiropractic adjustments correct subluxations and remove this interference, allowing the body to restore itself to function optimally.
